What is Bullying?
Bullying is when someone is mean or hurtful to another person on purpose, over and over again. It can happen in different ways, like saying mean things, making fun of someone, hitting them, or even spreading rumours about them. Bullying can also happen in person or online, through things like text messages or social media. Bullying can happen in school, at home, at clubs you attend and many other places.
Bullying is not nice at all, and it can make the person being bullied feel sad, scared, or hurt. It's important to remember that bullying is never okay, and if you see someone being bullied or if it's happening to you, it's important to tell a trusted adult like a parent, teacher, or school counsellor. They can help make it stop and make sure everyone is treated with kindness and respect.

What to do if you or your friends are being bullied?
You should always report bullying. If it is happening to you or to a friend then you must let someone know. Speak to an adult in school or your student support officer, go to the house base and speak to them. There is lots of support and everyone will listen to you - remember You Matter, We Care.
Here is some advice on how to report any incidents of bullying you see or know about:
-
Find the Right Time: Wait for a good time to talk to your teacher, for example; when the class is not too busy or during a break.
-
Stay Calm: Take a deep breath and try to stay calm. It can be a little scary, but your teacher or the base staff are there to help.
-
Explain What Happened: Tell your teacher about the bullying. You can say, "I've noticed that [describe what happened], and I'm worried about it."
-
Share Feelings: Let your teacher know how you or your friends feel because of the bullying. You might say, "It's making me/my friend feel sad/scared/upset."
-
Ask for Help: Ask your teacher for help and support. You can say, "Can you please help us make it stop?"
-
Listen to Their Advice: Your teacher will listen and give you advice on what to do next. They might talk to the person who's bullying, they will speak to your head of house or student support officers, or other experts to make sure everyone is safe.
-
Keep Talking: If the bullying continues or if you're still worried, don't be afraid to keep talking to your teacher or another trusted adult. They are there to protect you and make sure everyone feels safe at school.
Remember, it's really important to tell someone you trust if you or your friends are being bullied. You should never have to deal with bullying on your own, and your teacher is there to help make things better.
