The underpinning aims of our curriculum are to empower pupils to consistently develop the three areas of achievement as outlined in the ensuring excellence document.
- Achievement – Academic
- Achievement – Personal
- Achievement – Social
To create:
- Successful learners who enjoy learning, understand how to learn, make good progress and achieve excellence.
- Confident individuals who are able to live safe, healthy and fulfilling lives.
- Responsible citizens who can make a positive contribution to society, with global awareness.
- Individuals who can develop strong and secure relationships.
Our curriculum is ambitious, offering both breadth and balance. It is designed to provide all pupils — particularly those who are disadvantaged and those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) — with the knowledge and cultural capital they need to succeed in life.
A strong emphasis is placed on developing a love of reading, alongside confidence in using rich language and a broad vocabulary. Our curriculum also supports the development of character and places high importance on pupils’ mental health and wellbeing.
Carefully planned and coherently sequenced, the curriculum ensures that all pupils build secure knowledge and skills, preparing them effectively for future learning. It is further enriched through thoughtfully planned educational visits, extracurricular activities, and career-related opportunities, enabling pupils to be well-prepared for the next stage of their educational journey.
The 5 key expectations for our Curriculum:
- We deliver the National Curriculum, or a curriculum of equal breadth and ambition, across all subjects.
- Our curriculum remains as broad as possible for as long as possible, ensuring a rich and varied educational experience.
- Content is carefully selected to reflect the most valuable knowledge and is taught in a clear, logical sequence to support progression.
- We ensure pupils can remember and successfully retrieve key knowledge over the long term.
- We are clear about what pupils need to learn and why, and this is consistently demonstrated through our curriculum planning and implementation.
Monitoring and Evaluation:
Monitoring and evaluation of curriculum planning, implementation, and impact are carried out in line with the school’s Monitoring and Evaluation Schedule. This includes a range of activities such as subject reviews, learning walks, lesson drop ins, and interviews with pupils, staff, and leaders.
The curriculum in each subject is reviewed annually by Middle Leaders to ensure that sequencing supports the effective building of knowledge, and that all pupils are appropriately stretched and challenged.
In addition, the Senior Leadership Team and Governors review curriculum time allocation and subject provision on an annual basis to ensure breadth, balance, and effectiveness.
