Important Information for Year 7 September School Opening

Dear Parent/Carer,

Following our receipt of government guidance for the reopening of schools to all students for compulsory full time education from September,  we can now share our detailed plans for welcoming all students, including our new year 7, for the new school year. These plans minimise risk and provide a full educational experience for our young people.

Our risk assessment and plan has been approved by our trust and these documents can be found below. The plan has the following headings:

  1. Minimising risk – This section outlines the essential measures (system of controls) that will be in place across the school to prevent and respond to infection.
  2. School operations – Our actions and guidance regarding pupil travel and attendance, plus guidance for the school workforce.
  3. Curriculum, behaviour & pastoral support
  4. Assessment & accountability
  5. Contingency planning

The plan is very detailed and staff will be receiving thorough training to ensure that it is effectively implemented. We will also be working carefully with parents, carers and the students to ensure that all of our community adhere to the plan and comply fully with the government guidance.

Further to this please note the following key information regarding the start of the new school year:

We have set aside Wednesday 2nd September for our new year 7 to be the only students in school, to complete their transition programme, as it was so significantly effected in the summer term due to the COVID 19 pandemic.

Students will be required to wear full school uniform as normal

September marks a return to mandatory school attendance

In line with government guidance we will be operating a staggered day in order to minimise student mixing, so the school day will be slightly different for each year group and we ask that students arrive at their identified entrance point as close to their listed start time as possible:

  • Year 11 arrive at 8.25am via the main entrance and leave at 2.20pm via the main entrance
  • Year 8 arrive at 8.30am via the rear gates, behind the sports hall, opposite the main staff carpark and leave at 2.25pm via the rear gates, behind the sports hall, opposite the main staff carpark
  • Year 7 arrive at 8.35am via the main entrance and leave at 2.30pm via the main entrance
  • Year 9 arrive at 8.40am via the rear gates, behind the sports hall, opposite the main staff carpark and leave at 2.35 via the rear gates, behind the sports hall, opposite the main staff carpark
  • Year 10 arrive at 8.45am via the main entrance and leave at 2.40pm via the main entrance

Our breakfast club will run from 7.30am onwards, but places will need to be booked so that we can plan for expected pupils and ensure appropriate social distancing and year group zoning. Places will be limited and allocated on a first come first served basis. If you would like you child to attend between 7.30am and the year 7 start time of 8.35am, please email info@telfordlangleyschool.co.uk to confirm a place.

Continued thanks for your ongoing support as we look forward welcoming our new year 7 to The Telford Langley School in September.

Kind regards

Steve Carter
